I am blessed to have a yard that I keep a section of as a "Sanctuary" to feed the birds, insects and the small furry creatures :-)  I have possums that are regular visitors and in recent months an armadillo snacks nightly on the grubs it digs up. My "lawn" is naturalized so no screams of despair over a manicured grass setting. i had a large hatch of praying mantis babies this Spring...that I hope made it through our last late cold snap. They have dispersed and not been seen since.. but there is plenty here to sustain and hide them. I have been blessed this Spring with a white chipmunk born and residing here with its family. I uploaded a photo but it said file too big..will try to make smaller and share

Journey,

I love praying mantids. They are fascinating. I have a batch in my garage right now waiting for warmer weather. The babies are adorable.

Ladybugs too. I use beneficial insects whenever possible.

@ghandigirl please keep us updated on your adoption.  I hope the new kitty fits in with little trouble.  Well I still miss my Sandy boy.  But my neighbor who I shared him with was able to adopt a new boy.  A friend he worked with called him and said she had a family member with a cat that hadto be rehomed.  Mark was thrilled.  Since last August he lost his dog and his two cats!  He was lonely and his apartment was feeling empty.  The new babys name is Comet.  He is a year and a half.  He is black with a white "soul" patch , a white patch under his chin and a big white spot on his belly!  He is a cutie.  He is a cuddler and a lap sitter.  He even comes when Mark calls him.  And most importantly he is and has always been an inside cat.  My lazy boys are still in bed an it's almost noon.  They take after their mother!

*No cats were harmed in the telling of this joke*

A dog walks into a bar with a cat in a burlap sack and sets it down. He orders a beer, and after a few minutes, asks the bartender if he can take a few handfuls of peanuts and pretzels when he leaves.

The bartender says, "Sure, buddy, but what for?"

The dog says, "I like to make my own Meow Mix."

@firstcat

My new kitty has food/skin allergies and is licking her tummy raw a little bit. I notice she is fat and I am thinking she's been overfed. Also wondering if it is emotional? Any insight would be appreciated.

So far, the two kitties are doing pretty well. Kitty #1 is hissing at Kitty #2 if she gets too close, but otherwise they are beginning to cohabitate.

New Kitty is super chill and friendly. When hissed at, she responded with a huge open mouthed yawn. "You bore me!"

They are both so beautiful and bring us so much happiness and laughter.

This photo is of Lollipop. She is out of the crate all day now.

Beautiful (if a little pet-ulant, pun intended?))) new kitty! Maybe she is like a parrot or a cockatoo that ocd's on pulling out their own feathers when they are too frustrated?

She just needs alot of supportive love and persuasion to feel secure with her new companions... talking to her alot in a soothing tone will help.... ?

@ghandigirl she is a beauty.  Yes her eating may be emotional.  My Harry is an emotional eater.  He actally takes a mouthful of food and runs into the dining room to eat it just in case MrPeabody tries t take it.  Which he never does!  The hissing of course is natural.  It's good that new kitty doesn't engage.  Older kitty will get used to her easier if she doesn't.

Here is Lolli again in the window with one of my artworks.

Lolli has hissed back once or twice after several days of deferring to Cleo.

I think they are doing great now. :)
