These cats have been in the Trap, neuter, release program. Feral cats in shelters and not adoptable cats are being given a chance to live free on the streets after being neutered and vaccinated. Perhaps a new chance to help them to help us. I have mixed feelings about it. I just pray that people appreciate and give them a hand when they need it. Not just make them rely on the mice they can catch. Happy , fed cats make the best hunters. May it be a blessing for both .
For years I have had bird feeders, suet and nectar for our beautiful flying friends. This past year I have been really concerned that there are so few birds coming to my feeding stations. Last year I was using about 40 pounds a month of feed. This year I am only on my second bag. I have been worrying and wondering what is going on. Well, there is an unknown disease killing birds across six states including Virginia. The disease is also found in Ohio. I am heartsick.
Birds get mysterious illness and die in MD, IN, DC, KY, VA
As the recent record heat has created havoc for humans and vegetation, animals have needed to get creative to cool down.
There were 2 recent stories of mama bears and their cubs cooling down where humans cool down. The first place was a beach in Lake Tahoe filled with swimmers, the second a swimming pool. The videos are very cute but yes also concerning. The more bears are losing their fear of humans, the more concerning the situation for them and the humans they interact with.
Somehow there must be a solution to help our wildlife and keep them wild.

A dog was in her backyard with her family when fireworks went off and scared her. She jumped the fence and fled. Her family searched for her but count find her when their Ring doorbell sounded. She rang her doorbell to get back inside. She had not been taught how to ring the doorbell.
Here is the video. SO happy she is home. My dog HATES firework booms and totally panics when he hears them.
I thought this was a wonderful story about how a German farm was born: "On This German Farm, Cows Are in Charge. Or at Least Coequals."
The cows don’t have to produce milk. The pigs sleep late. No animal on this former dairy farm serves a human need. Their only purpose is to live peacefully — and provoke questions about how we eat.
This was so awesome, thank you so much for posting about the farm sanctuary. What a great article and wonderful place.
I know right?
I think I need to move in a direction to reduce my consumption of many things, then work to eliminate them. I think I will have more success if I do it more gradually. Or one thing at a time.
Try oat milk. But read the ingredients.
I have regular oat milk (not a creamer) from a company which doesn't list coconut or soy as ingredients. I also have a different company in my fridge for an oat milk creamer but there is coconut in that one. I would assume there are oat milk creamers without soy or coconut.
@jeanne-mayell Love Oatmilk. Oatley Barista is my favorite, but also use Elmhurst Barista.
@bluebelle (This is in response to your reply in the other thread, but it's getting to be off topic so I brought it over to the animals thread) We had a Saint Bernard, and the day after we had to have her put down (She was 11 and despite being a very petite and picky eater, her stomach flipped - there was nothing we could do) we impulse bought a chocolate lab puppy, the last remaining one at the farm down the road from us. The Saint was not a fan of our daughters when she was born and we generally made her an outdoor dog even though it broke our hearts when the girls were out and about. We loved her dearly.
But the lab - oh goodness but he's the kindest soul we've ever welcomed into our home. Neurotic to the core (but that's what you get with a chocolate lab) - but - he GRINS. When he's around us he is just bursting with light and joy. A friend of my mom's rescues labs and we've agreed when Oliver goes we'll take some rescues from her because they're just the best. Granted - I don't think if someone robbed us he'd protect the home - the mail carriers are his extended wolf pack after all, but the light that comes off him is just uplifting.
He's going to have a rough time when I'm back in the office this fall!
(attached: A picture of Oliver Wendell :-))
@dannyboy Oh, Oliver Wendell looks like a very good boy. I love labs and we’ve had four of them over the years. Once we even had two lab puppies at once (and survived it). I’d say you’re a lucky guy to have this one.
Thanks Jeanne, I knew everyone would love that German farm story. Made me happy to see it is in Germany, since Germans are big pork and meat eaters. The new generation is making headway with much lighter fare these days though.
I have tried nutpods creamer and cashew or almond creamers. I'm still using lactose free half organic half and half though occasionally. I also love cheese and have not found any non-milk cheeses I like. I do not use regular milk because I use cashew milk. I have not given up meat yet though, but have been eating more fish than ever before (followed by chicken) in an attempt to at least lessen my meat consumption.
From Newsweek:
The young fish among the endangered chinook salmon population that occupies the Sacramento River are at risk of dying out because of heatwaves expected to continue in California this summer, state officials warned this week.
The Sacramento Bee shared an alert from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) earlier this month when officials told the paper "nearly all" of the juvenile chinook salmon in the warming river could die. On Wednesday, CNN published a statement from the CDFW that attributed the "heat dome" California and other Western states have experienced in recent weeks to the threat.
Is there any good news about the chinook salmon? Well, maybe.
For those relocated salmon, the CDFW said it intended on releasing them into the Klamath River, where that species of fish typically resides, when conditions were better suited for the fish to survive.
@jeanne-mayell You can make you own oat milk at home. It's easy! and ..that way you get to control what goes in it. :-)

If you want to make your coffee creamer : https://helloveggie.co/oat-milk-coffee-creamer/
@journeywithme2 One of your links was misspelled... here's the correct one: https://minimalistbaker.com/make-oat-milk/
?
@tgraf66 Thank you for fixing out!!!! Much appreciated. I get keyboard dyslexia on occasion LOL
@journeywithme2 @tgraf66 both links didn't work for me. I did find this link for an extra cremy oat half and half https://helloveggie.co/oat-milk-coffee-creamer/
Then I found your link by just googling minimalist baker oat milk. Looks very easy. But I need to to be cremy so maybe just less water?
