My condolences, lenor. The world changes when we lose a parent. Your mother’s last months must have been very hard for her and for you.
My husband and I had a friend who died from post polio syndrome. It was dreadful.
I’m no fan of Mitch McConnell, but I do not wish him ill. If his health is on the wane, then I simply hope he resigns and goes home. Make room for new, healing energy to take his place.

Very interesting. I get why Biden didn't do it as VP, as it would start a process of destruction of norms, but now that norms have all bee destroyed, why not?

@snowbird Maybe, but I doubt it. He already knows that he has no power anymore, and given his speeches in the joint session for certifying the EC, I think he's pretty much over it anyway. Obviously Ms. Chao - as his wife - would likely be privy to a lot of things others wouldn't be because of their relationship, and she's had a few scandals of her own over the last three years, so it may be pre-emptive on her part.
And the plot thickens .... when I foresaw the Turtle not being around too much longer, I did see him in a hospital bed looking like a cadaver ... ??? Covid perhaps ...
Don't know about the timeline with that, though he will probably come undone soon and bless us all with his resignation from a deep blue Senate. Fingers crossed ?
I don’t wish Mitch McConnell ill. I want him to stick around for a minute so we can see how he conducts himself in the minority role. If he has a return to his senses and if he has any integrity left. If he demonstrates that he is unchanged, then may he leave quickly. With his highest good away from any position of power.
@lowtide - Yes. And I've been weighing in my head whether we need to go with the nuclear option in the senate - requiring only a simple majority. There are some pros and definite cons to consider for this, and I don't know where I land on the spectrum. But it would be poetic justice for the Mepublicans to have to endure a total dismissal and removal of the agenda and legacy they've built the past four years without any power to stop it.
Who is the Democratic version of Susan Collins that the right will be talking about? I think it's Joe Manchin from West Virginia but don't quote me on that.
Right now, I don’t support going with the simple majority. We are going to try and right the ship. Changing that right now would not be a step in accomplishing that and would make us no better than them. I don’t think Biden would support that. And it would be used against us, again, in the future.
Why can't we do both? Democrats can agree to keep the 2/3 majority rule for now, but let Republicans know that if they start the obstructionism that they have engaged in for the last decade again, then we will implement the nuclear option. That way, whatever happens in on them. Either they play by the rules, or we implement the nuclear option. It's their choice. Either way, we will not go through another term of Republican obstructionism and lawlessness.
In the meantime, we do need to punish the Republicans for what they have done, and it must be proportionate with the crime. As such, I support expanding the Supreme Court by two seats to punish Republicans for the two seats they stole. That way, we punish them for what they did, ensure that we send a message for anyone debating whether to break the rules in the future, and yet Republicans can't argue that we stole the court because they would still have a majority (abet only one seat.)
We could expand the seat by four and take over, but then we just look vindictive. Also, the point is not to take over the court, but to punish the Republicans for breaking their own rules. Fair is fair.
