I know the CDC and WHO are saying it isn't spread thru sewage, and I would say that is at least 99% accurate. That said, viral sheddings are commonly found in fecal matter of those infected. The time between host and water source should be plenty to kill the hostless virus, but there are certain circumstances where I can see the virus living thru that. I wouldn't say it is 100% safe, but quite close to that.
A much more realistic concern of mine would be it being transferred from other people in the vicinity that are infected.
It is primarily spread by droplets, but there are some things out there suggesting that it is also transmissible(albeit not as as frequently) by aerosol and on surfaces. Its a much lower chance than via droplets, but there still is a mathematically significant(not infinitesimal) chance.
Re: AB tests - yes, you're right.
Re: Modes of transmission - droplets, yes, but now they say it is also "true" airborne, meaning it will linger in the air way longer than droplets, and can travel on air currents in a limited way.

You are completely correct and thank you for adding that. I was referring to outdoor water bodies, where whatever is aerosolized is much less likely to infect someone because of wind and natural sunlight. Inside, it is an entirely different story and much more likely, since the aerosolized virus is trapped and not exposed to near the UV light that it is outdoors.
you raise some good points. I'm guess I'm just tired of the good cop/bad cop routine. I feel like they're just passing the ball back and forth.
Yesterday I saw Maxine Waters call what is happening in Portland a trial run for November (no link -- she said it on Joy Reid's new show), but I haven't seen anyone else raise the alarm so explicitly.
While I certainly hope they are busy planning behind the scenes, I would just like something a little more visible right now.
Well, I remind myself that have a ways to go before November, and nowadays lots can happen in a single 24 hours. Gotta keep the faith, I tell myself :)
I just saw on the news. Trump’s Goon Squad has a code name: Operation Legend. I would have to interject here that they are a legend in their own mind! This is a play straight out of the Putin playbook. Little green men showed up in Ukraine without identifying marks. Who is behind this? My guess is Putin, Barr, and Trump. It is not a coincidence that he is targeting Democratic cities. He wants chaos and takes his orders from Putin. Will we be able to turn the tides? It reminds me of what Jeanne said many moons ago. Who will step us to save us from this abomination?
Michael Cohen was ordered to be released by a Federal Judge:
A federal judge on Thursday ordered the release of Michael Cohen to home confinement, agreeing with his lawyers that he was wrongly sent back to prison after making public statements critical of President Donald Trump.
He was asked to sign a form that included this provision: "No engagement of any kind with the media, including print, tv, film, books, or any other form of media/news. Prohibition from all social media platforms."
"I've never seen such a clause in 21 years of being a judge and sentencing people," U.S. District Court Judge Alvin Hellerstein said. "How can I take any other inference but that it was retaliatory?"
That new census executive order DT signed is also going to piss off SCOTUS. It clearly shows he lied to them when arguing the census question, and also shows they were correct in saying they created the rationale they argued after the fact. His administration publically chastised SCOTUS for that decision, which he just proved was correct. Theres going to be some hell to pay for him lying to judges regularly and getting caught
Makes me proud to be an attorney.
Don't get me wrong. Cohen deserved to go to prison for his role in covering up Trump's wrongdoing. But as we all know, he was thrown back in prison this time because Trump was trying to silence him further. It was retaliation and a deliberate violation of Cohen's civil rights.
But seriously, I am proud at the role that lawyers and judges have undertook in recent years to fight Trump. The immigrant attorneys who fight against illegal deportations and to save DACA children. The judge who is still fighting Barr for trying to shield Flynn. The Supreme Court judges who have mostly ruled fairly and have sent a message to Trump that he does not have absolute immunity. The state attorneys who bring lawsuits on behalf of their home states to fight Trump's evil policies. And so on.
It is my hope that in the coming years, lawyers and judges will be looked upon as true warriors for the light instead of being stereotyped as greedy, corrupt, and uncaring. While I am the first to admit that we have our own share of bad apples, I feel that attorneys as a whole have gotten an undeserved reputation, and it is my hope that our contributions against fighting Trump's corruption will one day cause the public at large to view us in a more kindly light.
Trump is an idiot.
He is sending troops into Democratic cities who hate his guts, and he is ignoring the red states who are watching thousands die from Covid-19.
If Democrats want to capitalize on this, they need to ask the question "Why doesn't Trump send the troops to help with Covid 19? They can help out in so many ways!"
Republicans will have a hard time answering that question. Why indeed would their leader send troops to "liberal cities" when their assistance could be better used to help red states dealing with Covid 19? Why not let the "liberal cities" destroy themselves?
This is going to end badly. But as long as Democrats can keep reminding the public that Trump is taking needed resources towards protecting Confederate statutes vs. helping sick people in hospitals, then they will succeed in a blowout win in 2020 (absent an unexpected catastrophe, of course.)
I need to vent for a moment. My youngest brother, aka "The Rabbi", has posted on FB that he thinks reports of the federal interventions in Portland are exaggerated, and asking everyone to provide him with hard data proving what's going on, and that he wanted links to established, central media outlets only.
I replied, telling him that this is not quantifiable - he's asking a question that can't be answered until some point in the future, probably after a truth & reconciliation hearing. I even gave links to several centrist newspaper outlets. Another friend of his posted links to the videos, as that's the only evidence he has right now.
He deleted our replies, saying "sorry to be a hardass but I'm looking for hard data, not opinions." I explained that this is how these tactics/gaslightings work - to make the public doubt their severity.
His "rabbi-ness" has always made him more of a questioner/intellectual/etc., and he was ordained as Reform, but over the last few months I see him drifting more and more through Conservative (which is what his temple is), and is engaging in something we refer to as "Conservadox" - so extra conservative leaning towards Orthodox, which is as extremist as orthodox Islam and Christianity.
This is very exhausting... and this is the brother I've always been closest to. I'm glad our dad isn't on FB - he'd have a stroke.
Oh, do I feel your pain. My brother is a Southern Evangelical and ultra conservative. In the past ten years, he has become obsessed with guns and carries one at all times. He's even on the gun protection patrol for his church. Then my half brother is an ultra conservative Catholic (Opus Dei territory). The current Pope is too liberal for my brother. We do not discuss politics at all, which makes it hard during this tumultuous time not to be able to share our experiences and apprehensions. As the pandemic was getting underway, our concerns about the virus were brushed off, pooh-poohed, and disbelieved. The virus was just a cold or worst case like the flu, no big deal. Now the virus ravages the South.
I hope you can separate your brother's current behaviors from the brother you have known and loved. Focus on the latter.
I've been off the site for a few days-lots of catch up to do. I hope you are feeling better.
AOC's just gave the speech of the ages You can see it here.
In her speech before Congress, AOC responded to an incident two days earlier on the steps of the Capitol, when Ted Yoho (R/Fla) called her “disgusting,” he said she was “out of [her] freaking mind,” and when the discussion ended, Yoho called her a “f---ing b---h," which was overheard by a Hill reporter and reported.
Her speech is one that was worth taking time out of my day for: Yoho had issued a denial that he called her that, and said he is a married man with daughters and so we are to assume that a married man with daughters doesn't abuse women. AOC tweeted that she did not accept the "apology" because he denied what he did.
I agree Cohen should be in jail but him being sent back was retribution. It actually makes me want to read his book.
Yesterday again this administration was caught in a lie that they actually admitted. This is the case regarding NYS
Global Entry Ban. DHS admitted that they lied.
Homeland Security officials made false statements in a bid to justify expelling New York residents from programs that let United States travelers speed through borders and airport lines, federal lawyers admitted on Thursday.
The unusual admission, contained in a court filing, said the inaccuracies “undermine a central argument” in the Trump administration’s case for barring New Yorkers from the programs after the state passed a law enabling undocumented immigrants to get driver’s licenses.
The filing was a surprising retreat by the administration in its continuing battle with Democratic-led states and cities over immigration policy.
Federal officials had previously insisted that New York was an outlier in the restrictions it placed on the access the immigration authorities have to State Department of Motor Vehicles records.
For that reason, they argued, New York was endangering national security and could not be trusted to participate in Global Entry and related programs.
But in their filing on Thursday, the government lawyers acknowledged that several other states, Washington, D.C., and some U.S. territories also limited access to motor vehicle information and had not been subject to similar clampdowns.
Against that backdrop, the filing said, “The acting secretary of homeland security has decided to restore New York residents’ access to” what is officially known as the Trusted Traveler Program “effective immediately.”
Defendants deeply regret the foregoing inaccurate or misleading statements and apologize to the court and plaintiffs for the need to make these corrections at this late stage in the litigation,” said Audrey Strauss, the acting United States attorney in Manhattan.
@jeanne-mayell I just watched the AOC video. So powerful and good on her for catching the lie that abusive men in power have used to excuse their rotten behavior. I also see this moment as representing a tsunami in the making of the rise of the feminine. I hope I am still around to vote her in as Madam President!!
Yes - this was well worth taking the time to watch. She was calm, focused and determined and thoroughly explained why she felt the need to respond. It was amazing.
