Biden and Harris are in charge, they've assembled a kick-*ss administration, and from what I've seen so far, I badly underestimated Biden's ability to beat the rethugs at their own game.
It will get even better when Schumer puts his foot down and re-organizes the Senate with or without McConnell's approval. Until that happens, the R's are still in charge of the committees, and Lindsey Graham - still having the chair of the judiciary committee - refused to allow Merrick Garland's nomination to be considered today. I seriously can't wait until these cowardly little whiney-babies are taken down.
@Allyn @debbie-m @Polarberry and really "at" everyone: This article from Washington Post today has made me feel better about the upcoming impeachment proceedings: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/trumps-senate-impeachment-trial-wont-be-a-waste-of-time/2021/02/02/ff3c90c6-6588-11eb-8c64-9595888caa15_story.html
I didn't give a lot of credence to the death of the Republican party business, even after having several readings by myself and others that show it coming. But as I watch their reactions to Biden's stimulus plans - I'm listening again. From the 10 who wanted to be bi-partisan and missed the boat COMPLETELY, to the other 40 senators who will vote no on anything -- I can't help but think the entire lower and middle classes will be paying attention to who wants to provide how much and to what. And thankfully, Schumer won't let much in the way of additional bailouts to the mega rich happen.
McConnell's argument about not using reconciliation and other tactics that he himself has used is essentially "We only do this for billionaires. Not the peasants." This peasant isn't amused.
”Give them to God, and tend to your wounds.”
An aha! moment reading those words. I will remember them forever. Thank you.
You are so right! I get the feeling from talking with younger people that these upcoming generations are far less willing to accept the scr*wing over from the rich fat cats like McConnell and his ilk than generations prior. The class divide has always been with us, of course, but has always been accepted as the status quo far more than it will be in the future. Look what just happened with GameStop.
They will be the driving force for change. They are not interested in the rethug party. They want health care, free college, a climate plan, and they have a much more live-and-let-live attitude about life in general.
Rethugs have always been foaming at the mouth to scr*w over the middle class, and the working poor. This peasant is tired of it too.
From the 10 who wanted to be bi-partisan and missed the boat COMPLETELY,
I can almost guarantee you that those 10 were not at all interested in actually *being* bipartisan; they just wanted to give the *appearance* of it. If they had been serious, they would not have presented such a ridiculously inadequate "counter offer". It was staged so they could pretend they were doing something without actually doing it. They knew full well their "offer" was woefully inadequate and would be rejected. It was nothing more than a performative and perfunctory nod in the general direction of bipartisanship.
@allyn I feel you. In my experiences with small town law - in both serving on juries and in being involved in cases (domestic violence, divorce, custody battles) I agree. Many times it is not what you know it's who you know. Money under the table and prejudice and privilege and more.
The thing is? Forgiveness IS a gift you give to yourself. Truly Anger is a hot stone that burns the one that holds it. Go ahead feel the emotions and the feelings.. and embrace them, gain their wisdom as they show you what they need to show you. Then? release them so as to not to continue to give your power away to those who harmed and hurt you. Forgiveness? Does not mean forgetting. Forgiveness? Does not mean you have to allow them space in your life again. It means not holding that harm and hurt as part of your energy anymore. I have truly had to release some very severe betrayals and hurts over to Creator - so that I could forgive and move on to build a better life. These people are not a part of my life anymore.. tho they are of my blood and family and upraising.
It's different for everyone... That being said? I urge you to find what brings you Peace and allows you to go on to build a life that reflects who you are.. not.. who they are.
I say this with much love for you. We who feel/see deeply get wounded/hurt/see deeply and we have to heal ourselves and love ourselves first and foremost because we can not give from an empty cup. We have all been traumatized and have PTSD from the past 4 years. We must heal ourselves to continue what we came here to accomplish. This is all exacerbated by the Pandemic. I find Nature - observing and being out in nature...watching the fellow creatures I share my world with... are my source of healing. Finding ways to love and support what I believe in and am...help me heal.
Sending you much Light and Love and hoping I have made sense to you. Know that I am holding space for you.. and.. for all us.. doing our best to carry on and move forward. *Footnote: there is no shame in asking for help when you need it. We must learn to receive as well as to give..don't know why I had to come back and add that.. but.. I did. So I did :-)
I can't help but think the entire lower and middle classes will be paying attention to who wants to provide how much and to what.
I know you're talking about specifically the lower and middle class folks who call themselves Republicans. (There are many who are not Republicans, who are already fully aware and informed.) Sadly, the right-wing media keeps their "peasant" base blissfully brainwashed, unaware, and unconditionally biased against anything even a little bit "leftward". The word "liberal" is a pejorative to them. So I have my doubts with regards to those unfortunate people ever realizing the truth, as they continue to be manipulated like pawns by the rich and powerful proto-Fascists who are in charge of the Republican party.
@allyn well this is interesting.. what do you think of this argument?
While reading excerpts of President Donald trump's impeachment defense, MSNBC Rachel Maddow read some specifics that eliminate a key GOP argument against the impeachment.
Over the weekend, it was reported that former President Donald Trump lost his legal team when they disagreed on the defense strategy. The old team wanted to focus on the "constitutionality" argument, which says that Trump can't be impeached because he's no longer in office. Instead, Trump wants to argue that he is innocent because he won the 2020 election.
The brief submitted by the Trump legal team Tuesday argues that President Joe Biden wasn't legitimately elected as the president of the United States.
"The whole brief, for one, never once describes Donald Trump as the former president," Maddow observed. "It describes him over and over again as the 45th president, as if he is still the president. They never describe him as the former or previous president. Apparently, he thinks he still is the president."
While Maddow didn't notice it, that's a huge problem for Trump and the Republican officials in the Senate. If the Republicans argue that Trump can't be impeached as a former president and Trump says he's still the current president, it eliminates the Republican argument he can't be impeached. Regardless of what Republicans say in this case, they fly in the face of Trump. They have to either agree he's the president and thus he can be impeached, or argue he's not the rightful president, against Trump's claims.
"The brief argues that the election results that voted Trump out and Biden in, it argues that those results are, and I quote, 'Suspect,'" Maddow continued. "It argues that when President Trump told his supporters on the day of the attack that he had actually won the election in a landslide, well, they argue in their brief today that there's no evidence to say that's false. Who can say, really? That claim that President Trump won the election somehow and that President Biden isn't really the president, he's a pretender and he's stolen it, and Trump is the rightful president. I mean, that was the basis for the mob attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6th. The former president is still trying to advance that claim. He spelled out today in black and white, typos and all, that that's going to be part of his defense in his impeachment trial that starts next week. Totally with you. But while they dominated the conversation for a couple of days, I can't help but think of number of people who recognized how inadequate that number was.
House Impeachment Manager is requesting that the T testify at the trial. All I can do is laugh imagine all the lies he will say. I hope he does it ?
"Two days ago, you filed an Answer in which you denied many factual allegations set forth in the article of impeachment," Raskin, a Maryland Democrat, wrote. "You have thus attempted to put critical facts at issue notwithstanding the clear and overwhelming evidence of your constitutional offense. In light of your disputing these factual allegations, I write to invite you to provide testimony under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, concerning your conduct on January 6, 2021."

There is no evidence that his fictional claim is TRUE either...Dominion stands behind their voting machines and every state certified their results, some counting and re counting upon his demands. I'm totally not getting the jist of his supposed "legal argument"...he has ZERO evidence to back up his claims...
@isabelle: well they impeachment lawyers just asked him to testify at his impeachment trial, perhaps he will clarify his position, although it seems unlikely that he could clear anything up, let alone testify without digging the whole he is standing in even deeper.. This should be very interesting.. bring the popcorn, and get comfy, I think this is going to be a bit of a wild ride..
The My Pillow dude has "100% evidence" of widespread voter fraud so he can testify and enlighten everybody.
@polarberry somebody should hold his "My Pillow" over his "My Pie Hole" until his "My 70's Porn Mustache" stops quivering.
I doubt Rump will testify. It will be under oath and his lawyers realize he is constitutionally unable to tell the truth...yes you are so right: it would be a disaster...he would definitely dig himself into a giant, gaping hole...
David Hogg, who survived Parkland, is trying to start a pillow company to take down My Pillow, and the company One Fresh Pillow has been killing the marketing game against MP for the past month. My Pillow and Mustache Mike need to go; Minnesota is a strange little state when it comes to politics, and I do NOT want Governor Batsh*t in a couple of years.
