@jessi1978 In addition, Apple has told Parler they have 24 hours to produce an adequate plan to moderate their platform or they’re off the App Store. Apple doing this will force Google to do the same thing because of how bad they’ll look if they keep it (Phone sales aside, they recognize the size of the audiences)

@jessi1978 I saw that but keep getting so lost in retweeting excellent posts on Twitter, that I never make it back here on time to be the first with the scoop! ?. I told one friend via text that Apple knows full well their demand is not attainable, and that they get to say “we gave them an opportunity.” to the MAGAs and “Buy and iPhone” to the rest of us. But Google just went in for the sucker punch, screaming loudly “BUY ANDROID!”
I also had to explain to another friend what Parler was. After several failed attempts I went with this and he got it immediately:

Banning Rump from Twitter was, G-d knows, long overdue. But it also constituted his primary way of venting. Now we have an explosive, insane, unleashed POTUS with increasingly bottled up rage feeling like a cornered animal...and the nuclear arsenal to worry about. Sounds crazy but I could definitely see the necessity of one of his few remaining members of staff keeping him subdued with tranquilizers (tranquilizer gun?) until he is ousted on 1/20 or before. .. don't know the legality of that but, in the face of potential nuclear annihilation, I think any jury would eventually find him cleared of all charges in the end....and a hero.

I went back to my FB last night for more rage porn. Mission accomplished. I had to sit quietly in thought after reading colleagues - fellow teachers - lamenting the censorship of Trump. (These aren’t my social studies peeps - these are local educators and I’m in a deep red zone. Most of my social studies teachers were rage posting just like I was on Twitter.)
When I finally got to sleep it was the deepest sleep I’ve had in a long time and I awoke this morning refreshed, and with thoughts.
Hard truth: The First Amendment wasn’t violated in doing this last night. Twitter, Facebook, all the others are businesses. And even if it were a true FA violation, it only protects your speech - not the consequences that come from it. You can’t yell fire in a crowded theater when there isn’t one and just get a “don’t do that again.” January 6th was way worse.
Hard truth: Yes, we should always seek to understand an opposing point of view. But if it becomes apparent that those opposing points of view are rooted in lies, conspiracy and violence - you are immediately absolved from your responsibility to try and understand. There’s no “I disagree with what you’re saying but I’ll defend your right to say it” in this situation. This was an attempted coup.
Hard truth: There’s a document that all of us on every side claim to love. It’s called the Constitution. You may have heard of it. We should be talking a lot about Section 3 of Amendment 14 right now. And I quote:
“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each house remove such disability.”
We. Must. Prosecute. Everyone. From the people who committed the lawlessness to the members of congress and the President himself.
There is no “healing” until the cancer is completely dealt with.
I think 2021 is going to be a very, very, very long year. And we’re only on the last day of the first week.
The hypocrisy is amazing. Apparently now a business can't refuse service to someone posting violence inciting words but they can refuse to bake a cake for a gay marriage because God said so. I assume that God likes violence more than gay people and comes down every 4 years in early November to make sure we are discriminating against the right things.
Joking aside, this has nothing to do with free speech. We passed that long ago. We are now in the "yelling bomb in an airport is free speech" chapter of US history.
I read through Kara Swisher's twitter this morning. Many of us are exhausted explaining first amendment rights to our outraged fellow citizens. A friend of hers suggested this.
Think of twitter as a Christian Bakery, and trump as the gay wedding cake.

As more videos of January 6 surface, the horror of that day is increasingly revealed to the world. The Boston Globe publicized the most violent videos this morning.
But a video that really got to me was this one - not violent per se - but of live broadcast of the journalist losing her composure and bursting into tears over her concern for fellow journalists besieged in the Capitol.
No accident that this occurred on the Biblical Day of the Epiphany when a new beginning was said to become revealed. January 6 is the day that the U.S. and the world woke up.
