Shooter's dead from return fire from Capitol police. Aide was shot in the chest but no word yet on his condition. Scalise reportedly out of surgery and ok.

Shooter was a Bernie supporter who worked on his presidential campaign. Bernie himself came out in Senate floor and condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms. No legislative business will be conducted today.

Guess we have our shocking event for spring... ??

Right winger at work who voted for Trump because he believes the healthcare will be better, just said it's typical of left wingers. I want to vomit, I can't listen to stuff like this on a regular basis. I'm not one to usually listen to conspiracy theories regarding false flags (Alex Jones is sickening) but Jeanne seems to think that they are more likely to happen now. The sense I get is that there is more to this than meets the eye, I don't know what but it feels instinctively suspicious. I feel sorry for the people injured and hope they are ok, and I do not want to minimize the actions of the shooter, but something instinctively just doesn't feel right.

Yeah, the same Trump voters who threatened second amendment solutions if Hillary had won. What a bunch of hypocrites.

We know nothing yet, but the response after this would definitely be something to watch. I'm sick to my stomach over it.

When I listen to Trump's speech about the shooting. It sound will rehearse, with calmness you do not see much in him. This sounds like it was planned for his birthday.

Well, by now everyone has heard through the media who the shooter was, that he lost his life, that the DC Police were there to protect Rep. Scalife who was badly shot and had two members of a security team as a leader in the House etc. I can't see I agree personally with any of the conspiracy theories. As my husband is always reminding me always look for the most obvious theories before jumping to conspiracies. There will always be unbalanced or past their anger points people out there who think its ok to act out when they feel outraged. And its our anger and our separation that is creating these energies of violence and war in the greater energy field of this dimension.

And I must say, I loved how the Congress , at least for this event, really felt a connection to the other members of both sides! I for one am praying and focusing my energies on blessing this space and focusing on its growing and not diminishing again.

I really want to focus on building this energy of union ..even for event by event, but building none the less. Its this comm-union, that will make Republicans truly realize that someone needs to be calming Trump down as they somehow did yesterday, or Trump needs to realize..as he may have yesterday..that if nothing else they all are perceived as true leaders when they act as leaders for our nation and not just their parties!

I genuinely appreciated both Paul Ryan and Nancy Pelosi's speeches on unification and trying to work together for the greater good.

I am VERY concerned about what the response will be after this event. If there's a chance of calming down the rhetoric, great. But if there's a call to stop protests, being critical of Trump, etc. as a result, I'm not going to be very happy. This was a huge wakeup call, but I fear some won't even see it

This morning on my way to work, I had a weird feeling/thought that in order for this polarization to end there has to be a lot of blood letting, it was a feeling of if we all start suffering together, eventually we'll come together. It wasn't a pleasant thought. I am not used to living in a society so divided, it's so much more visible to me because I grew up elsewhere, I think American's are numb to these divisions at this point and don't even notice them as much as foreigners do. There's so much passionate emotion on both sides, and fear on both sides which can lead to violence from either direction, but tends to be more prevalent on the right. People on the left are genuinely afraid of losing their rights, their health care and other very tangible things, on the right it's more of an emotional visceral fear of being dishonored and dis respected, coupled with real economic anxiety. I don't think that there is going to be healing in the near future, healing requires introspection, and that's not something I see many people in society or government wanting to do right now. We know it will get worse before it will get better, but we have to go along for the ride and keep fighting, because eventually it will end, it has to.

Annual U.S. Congress baseball game brings unity after shooting:

Representative Scalise still critical but improving and while the Democrats technically won the baseball game, they are passing the honors and trophy to Rep. Scalise.
