Madame Vice President, that is!
I just wanted to start a thread to celebrate the inauguration of Kamala Harris as Vice President of the United States of America. I am seriously fanboi-ing out! I just can't describe the feelings it brings up in me, to know that this little girl- THIS little girl, grew up to be MVP!
Kamala grew up in the same era as i did, and when i see her childhood pics, i see the old familiar clothing and hairstyles of the day. She looks so much like the girls in my school, the girls jumping rope and hopscotching across the sidewalks in my old neighborhood. I went through an entire box of tissue, watching her being sworn in today. Did you all see the band playing when she walked up the steps to enter her offices on Capitol Hill? I think they should just stay there indefinitely, and strike up the music every time she enters or exits the building!
It is a beautiful day in America!
Here is an adorable picture of Kamala as a young girl, holding hands with her baby sister:
@lovendures right?! now i feel a need to go shopping for tiny dashikis for all my little nieces and nephews
Today when she, as head of the Senate, swore in three new Senators, she started laughing and giggling as she announced the new opening had been created by the resignation of former Senator Kamala Harris of California.
I loved that burst of laughter. https://www.instyle.com/politics-social-issues/women-politics/kamala-harris-swearing-in-replacement-weird
She has the most awesome laugh. It's so genuine.
I am so very happy! MVP Harris was my pick for POTUS during the primaries. I will absolutely settle, (if you can really call it that) for Vice President Harris. Yesterday was such a happy day and this morning I woke up with the feeling every thing is going to be just fine.
so yesterday, i was thinking about this thread, and i knew i wanted to have some music in it, to celebrate Kamala as MVP. I thought of 5 or 6 songs off the top of my head that would be good to use. But then i saw a video where Kamala was talking about her favorite songs, and two of them were on my list already! Here is the first one- Bob Marley Sun is Shining:
That's a beautiful picture of Kamala in her youth! And that song is great! Funny but did you notice how many songs were sung at the evening special by the many iconic artists involved sunshine and better days. Such positive songs and vibes!
The whole day was a happy day. Tears, laughter and dancing went on in my home, and in many. The world was celebrating with us too. The evening "Celebrating America" prime time special on TV was hosted by Tom Hanks, who endured freezing evening temperatures without a warm coat or a hat for the whole event. ?
@triciact yes, it was definitely one of those laughing/crying/dancing simultaneously type days!
Hey, are you feeling better? has the ear infection cleared up yet?
I was thinking about how the T administration has sort of felt like a kidney stone for the nation. A kidney stone that finally dropped, right into the fake gold plated commode. What a relief!
@isabelle yeah, and it's no surprise that she is from Berkeley, CA. That city is full of intelligent, creative, and courageous people
Hi Unk-p! I'm feeling great - got over my ear infection about two days ago. Thank you for asking! I was wondering how you are feeling too? Hope you are doing well.

LOL yes a big kidney stone (which are painful!) ? ? I love the analogy. I feel like we were all in an abusive relationship and finally got the guy to pack his bags and go. PTSD...(hearing Beyonce's "to the left, to the left..." ?
I too adore her laugh! It makes her even more likeable and what a great team mate she will be for Joe. A dynamic duo.
I wanted to tell you and everyone this story about laughter and music. I was in my nail salon one day a while ago when they brought in a 96 year old Asian woman who they said comes in every other week. This woman practically "danced" into the salon (after they took her temperature, washed her hands and wore her mask of course with much social distance). I had to ask my nail lady to repeat what she said - 96??!! She looked 70! She had a great figure, hair and skin, and her movements were that of a 70 year old. I asked her how she keeps so young! She said "I listen to music all day long and dance a little every day. I laugh a lot and smile as much as possible".
? ?
I love how Harris's extended family is such a rainbow of cultures and ethnicities: African-American, South Asian, Euro-American, Jewish. Am I missing anything? ?
