Driver in a rented Home Depot truck plows down four blocks of bike lanes in lower Manhattan killing 8 (6 at the scene, 2 more died en route to hospital) and wounding perhaps a dozen others. Male driver is said to be of perhaps Bosnian, perhaps of "Middle Eastern" or similar descent, from Florida, 29 years old. It is being called an act of terrorism. Driver was shot and taken a local hospital.
