I started graying in my 30s and at 56 now, I'm full gray. I refuse to dye my hair, other than occasionally I'll color it blue or purple at home with vegan-friendly dyes, just for fun. Over the years so many nice people have approached me to say how much they love my hair, and that if they had to do it over, they would not color their hair. Which I very much appreciated, in light of the immense pressure from my dad, of all people, to dye my hair because it made me "look so old." Don't let anyone tell you that gray looks bad. Gray is beautiful!
@parizienne Hair doesn't matter at all! As we all know real beauty comes from within the soul. You do you, and no matter what that is - rock it!
Wow! What a conversation for our times! I see you have been discussing hair color/coloring. A very surface level yet ripe with potential discussion.
I watched Perry George Floyd's funeral and it sparked my own mental discussion on why people dye their hair in the first place.
Immediately it brought to mind all of the women without coloring dying hair, eyebrows, eyelashes all colors of the rainbow and people of color bleaching, stripping or buying wigs or extensions in all light colors of the rainbow.
Another surface level thought that led me into far deeper and yes, systemic thoughts on what it means to be a white, black or rainbow purse.
I may never get a chance to go to a bookstore, or even a library (ours closed for earthquake retrofitting for two years (probably double that now) and the small building meant to be used temporarily downtown will now need state funding big time to continue just flashed through my thoughts.
We are on a very tight budget now so if you buy that book i may have to borrow it dear @lovendures.
I am still in isolation though i finally was able to see my final two grandchildren ages 3 and 4 as they came over to pick raspberries and logan berries.
@unk-p both a logan berry is a raspberry/blackberry cross and a marion berry indigenous to Marion County Oregon (where I live) and another wild blackberry hybrid. So very delicious but ultimately short lasting seasonally in comparison to the wild original blackberrys that also grow freely--- far too freely all over here. Longer lasting by months their roots grow under impossible surfaces and come up where little bare feet and old callused ones find them amid the clover and wild English daisies.
The colors and variations and ideosynchriocies of all of God and nature's and mankind's created creatures.
Signed, a 70 year old, waist long hair woman mostly light grey but with the last hald foot of dark brown left to create a *bun. If you have hair of any kind you do not realize how important it can be to those who have none.

I have a big gray beard. It is long enough to make a *bun- a *chin bun. Is that a thing? Been thinking of dyeing it pink, to balance the butchiness of it (even tho i am not a Millennial. More like a Pre-Millennial. Ok a Pre-Pre-Millennial). But once we get closer to November, it will have to be blue. Tsunami blue.
Oh, I like that idea. Tsunami blue in November. My girls and I have been playing with temp hair color this summer (I am a middle-aged lady with cropped short hair) and I can totally see some awesome blue happenin' then. I will start experimenting... :)

Historically, accidental discoveries have resulted in some of our greatest scientific advances. @unk-p and his thoughts of a "tsunami blue" in November reminded of another such discovery with a huge amount of potential in a range of applications.
Originally seeking to create new materials for solid state electronics --instead Oregon State University students created an enduring new pigment of a very, verybright blue made by combining three compounds.
So @Unk-p, even while I cannot wait to see you in a photo here in November in your man bun-beard of bright blue --you really should consider "YInMn" blue--rom its compound of Yttrium, Indium and Manganese.
Crayola has already named a crayon after it the "Easton". Seriously, the Easton? Tsunami would have been better or better yet "Cascadia" without the tsunami thoughts attached here for our "West-on" (not Easton) Pacific Coast concerns.

The Accidental Discovery Of A Brand New Shade of Blue
My hand's in, 'silver sister'...
I have longer than waist-length & shot with silver (tho some would say gray, hmmph)... never coloured or dyed it since high school (Medieval Times) and since the CV isolation with my electric base heaters on alot, the hair has turned into an unglorious bunch of dry sagebrush.
I am now known as 'The Witch'. Oh well, been called worse things, lols, and do find that label rather flattering anyway.
I have always wanted that lustrous pure silver waterfall, like my dear grandmother's, who never cut her hair in her life ... it lay three feet on the floor. Just a bit high maintenance though....
Maybe it's time to trim and dye with some modern blue ... wonder what I would get called then ?

Oh dear dhyanaji. My goodness the gifting of a book is the giving of something so far greater than any most realize.
