@febby23, Monica, i'm sorry your family is going thru that at this time. Sending light,  love, & comfort.

Thanks to all (like @pat-czap) who sent good thoughts about dad. We got him back to the nursing home yesterday. He's ok until PT moves his leg, but it has to be done. 🤷‍♀️

@cindy Good news about your Dad. Hoping the PT works it's magic and the pain eases for your Dad. I had a hip replacement with good health and pain was a reality,  can't imagine his procedure with his physical issues.

Asking for prayers for myself and son and DIL ... we have the covid for Christmas *sigh*  DIL came down with it on Sunday..son and I on Wednesday. It was a mild positive and it seems a fairly mild case for me ... I had it in 2020 and got vaccinated and boosted ... mine is mostly headaches, achey, sneezy, red inflamed eyes, sore throat, fatigue, low grade fever.
We were not on the naughty list Santa!!!
Hopefully 5 days and test negative we'll feel better but stormy weather predicted too.  Gonna be a very quiet, stay at home and vegetate in front of the tv kinda Christmas.

I saw this passage by Ram Dass posted online yesterday in celebration of the winter solstice. But it resonated greatly with me in relation to my mother, who, as I've posted before, is in the late stages of Huntington's disease. I offer this because it is a balm to me when I think of my mother's spirit, and I thought it might be useful to some of you as well. It also seems relevant to the world moment we're in.

There was once a fire

And for some of us

It seems as if there are only ashes now

But when we dig in the ashes

We find one ember

Very gently we fan that ember

Blow on it, it gets brighter

From that ember we rebuild the fire

The only thing that's important is that ember

That's what you and I are here to celebrate

That though we've lived our life totally involved in the world

We know

We know that we're of the spirit.

Just a reminder (probably a tad verbose) that things happen for a reason. Since dad's fall, I would throw cards, and get ominous ones that I knew weren't always in answer to the question I was posing, but were about things going on in my life. I knew they were a warning, but I wasn't sure of what. I feared in my gut that it was in reference to what popped out of my youngest's mouth when I told them about the fall, "I won't see grandad alive again." That had me fearing that dad wouldn't survive surgery, or there would be complications, etc. As I've noted, dad is back at the nursing home, and while not doing great, he's not doing poorly either.

Youngest and their girlfriend were due here yesterday (Friday) morning. Thursday night, I get a phone call around 10 pm. Youngest is telling me there may be a problem. Their girlfriend got the tickets several months ago, but they didn't realize until packing and double-checking things in preparation. As I've noted, my youngest is non-binary, so they've changed their name, but not legally yet. The girlfriend without thinking used the gender-neutral name the youngest has been using for the last 3 years without thinking that name doesn't match their ID. There would be issues with boarding. So off to the airport they went, hoping to find an agent at the airline who could help, since they were getting nowhere with Expedia.  The short version is, after staying up all night, they had no luck and ended up leaving the airport at about 5 am-just shy of their boarding time. We were all tired, having been in touch most of the night. When they got home, we were all looking up last minute flights in frustration. Cooler heads prevailed, we threw in the towel at around 6:30 and decided to go to bed and get some sleep so we could approach the issue with more clarity after resting.

I cried myself to sleep, wondering if this is why the cards were warning me, to prepare me for another disappointment. I woke after just an hour or two, but they slept a good portion of the day. When they called me at 3:30 pm, it seems there was more to the warnings I had received than I expected. They had heard a text come in on their way home from the airport about their flight being delayed, but ignored it given the circumstances. After waking they found several more, and then just before calling me, they got notice of a refund of half of their fares. It seems that the increasing delays in taking off on the first flight would have made them miss the second leg of their trip here to NC. The refund was because Expedia could not get them another flight out of Washington, DC to NC. They would have been stranded in DC if they got on the first flight.

Ironically, while they technically lost half of their fares for a trip they didn't take, the other half is enough to cover a trip here in non-holiday months. Once I knew they would have been stranded, I knew what the cards were trying to warn me of, and while I'm disappointed, I'm more relieved they are home, safe and can spend some quality time together instead of enduring another stressful event that none of us really needs at this point in time. We will choose a time in the next few months for them to come and visit. Instead of feeling guilty about her mistake, we could make the youngest's girlfriend see that the mistake was fortuitous and kept them from experiencing both greater frustration, anxiety, and financial loss. The youngest's words will still be true. I think they were right in their prediction that they won't see their grandfather again while he's living, but it also means that his passing won't necessarily be in the next few days either. I've been feeling a different time frame, so I won't go through the holidays shouldering that kind of dread.

Sometimes we have to realize our disappointments are frustrating, but they are much easier to bear than the alternatives that could be worse. Look for the silver linings-they are there.

Hello Forum friends, I want to request all the light you can muster for a friend and her husband. Her husband had an aortic dissection and went in for surgery, which he survived (only 1% do.) They are watching him closely for the next 24 hours. She has had her own share of health issues over the last year and is having surgery herself in mid-January. Thanks so much for any healing, light and love you can spare for them. Much love to you all and continued prayers for everyone who posts here asking for light and healing!

@saibh

One hopes there will be an outcry after this publicity.  "Miracles are nature in action." Jane Roberts

Sending my own humble energy to this incredible family.
