Please send healing to my little cat Cleo. She may have hyperthyroidism. She was tiny really to begin with  and has lost weight. I looked it up and she has all the symptoms. I am hoping it will be an easy fix. Cleo is the kitty in my profile pic here.

@polarberry, I think she just chose them, because they are pretty. Don't think she is that particular about the choice;-) She has a white and pink bedroom with lots of princesses and so on with one wall being a large unicorn painting in typical fantasy color scheme.

@moonbeam

As long as you cycle the tank, I think you'll do great with the neons.

Guppies are also a beautiful fish that do well in a small tank. Zebra danios, white cloud minnows, or even a couple pink glofish. I don't use any of the tacky glofish decor. I have mine in a couple of my big tanks and they are beautiful.

Cardinal tetras look very similar to neons and are a bit hardier.

@polarberry, I thank you so much for your advice! I've been researching a lot and also came across the Rasbora Hengeli/Harlequin. They seem a lot easier and quite nice to keep. Should also work with a tank of 60 liters (15 gallons). Don't you think?

I've also thought of guppies or the Chinese Danio (the white cloud minnow), but I do not want them to breed like crazy...

So perhaps 8 Rasboras? Never seen pink goldfish! However, the same issue, the breeding...

I always like the biggest tank possible for the space you are working with. I just think the fish are happier.

Harlequin Rasboras are a gorgeous fish. They do prefer a planted tank and live foods, so do you mind having a blackworm holder in your fridge? ?  Just kidding, you don't have to feed them live foods, but they should have them, at least occasionally. You can buy ghost shrimp as feeders.

I have a lot of tanks and babies are never a problem. I haven't seen any for a long time. Honestly, the fry of most tropical fish usually get eaten, parents not excepting. White cloud minnows don't eat their young, so you are right to be concerned about that.

The pink ones are Glofish and they are a genetically modified fish. They're not harmed or dye-injected so it is ok to buy them. Sometimes pet stores try to sell them to parents for kids to keep in an unfiltered bowl, which makes me crazy, because NO fish should be in an unfiltered bowl, ever. I have a tank full of them and they are among my favorites. They are chill, easy care, pretty and fun to watch.

@polarberry, well we have bought the tank yesterday. 5 plants, good soil/grit, 2 Frozen statues and a fake tree trunk to start with. Going to set everything up this Wednesday and then get the Rasboras in October. It is a 16 gallon tank, but if I go for the Rasbora Hengeli or Harlequin it should be ok I hope.

I haven't seen the Glofish here so I do not think they sell them. Think my daughter is ok with these though. She loves watching fish swim. She has an innate fascination and love for the water. I think this is a better option then a small cage with a hamster in a wheel...

Thank you again for all your advice. I'll let you know how it goes!

ps: live food coming up! ?
